What about my doctor?
If you are seeing your doctor or hospital consultant it is helpful to tell him or her that you are having acupuncture, and we prefer that you do. It may be useful for your doctor and acupuncturist to be in touch, with your consent. For example, if you are taking medication (other than drugs which cannot be replaced) acupuncture treatment can often cut down your need for this. If so, your drugs can gradually be reduced, or even eliminated, and your doctor may need to be involved in any change of medication.

Please tell us if:
  • you have ever experienced a fit, faint or ‘funny turn’;
  • you have a pacemaker or other electrical implants;
  • you have a bleeding disorder;
  • you are taking any medication, especially anti-coagulants;
  • you have damaged heart valves, or any other particular risks of infection.
